Thanks for your response.

We do have an Apogee Duet Soundcard which has a pre-amp for vocals. Could we plug our MIC in the soundcard and then in the HD400 for effects before sending the signal to the computer for recording? Same for bass?

I think you have to choose which is more important to you in the short term: superior tones and a looper (HD400) or better flexibility and capability in the studio (X3). I have both an HD400 and a Pod X3 Live. The things that the X3 does in the studio right now that the HD400 can't do are:

- specialized amps/preamps for vocals, acoustic guitar, and bass

- 8 Record Send options over its ASIO driver to a DAW (the HD only has 2). In particular, no dry signal recording with the HD.

- Pod Farm plugin - the HD has no plugin like Pod Farm.

It's possible (likely) that the HD will be upgraded and the set of modeled amps will be expanded. Whether and when any of the above 3 points might be available via firmware update is anyone's guess. Meantime, the HD offers what are, in my opinion, far superior tones - and a looper.

Thanks for the quick reply Silverhead.

I don'T think I'll be recording 2 tracks at the same time unless my GF sings or play bass while I play the guitar track however we could well do that separatly this is not an issue.

I will use the unit to play at home and create stuff so this is why I thought the looper would be nice... otherwise I agree I could just loop in the software

You mention bass and vocals. If you have any need/desire to record both at the same time then the X3 is the only device among your three that will do that. The HD400 is a single path/tone device and has no XLR/mic input.

Yes, it would be nice if the X3 had a looper. But you say you will be using your device mostly in the studio, and you mention the looper in the context of a 'track' ..... that is DAW/recording terminology. Almost any DAW provides track looping features. What exactly is it that you would do with an X3 looper that you can't do in your DAW?

I am in the process of shopping for a multi effect pedal and I am hesitating between 3 devices : the M13, the HD400 and the X3 Live

I am not gonna play gig or if I do very few. Therefore the unit will be mostly used at home as a studio device

My girlfriend plays bass and sings; the idea is to have a tool that would help us record song; I guess the X3 would be a good choice since it has a pre-amp for vocals...however it SUCKS that it doesn'T have a looping function..............if only it had a loop for a track it would be awesome....this is why I am struggling with the HD400....

Any advice ???

I ordered the HD500 CAN NOT WAIT TILL IT GETS HERE!!!

From what I have read. I think the HD500 is a replacement of the X3 Live. They discontinued the X3, then a few months later released the HD series. Just an upgraded replacement.

Whatever it is, I'm so excited! I was saving up for the X3, then went to buy it. Found out from Musician's Friend it was JUST discontinued that week. They sold out instantly. So glad I didn't go buy a used X3 from eBay.

The only effect pedal I've ever used is a Digitech rp80. I'm sure this new pedal will blow that piece of trash out of the water! Cause I'm about to through this Digitech out the window.

agree... but why de X3 live is no more available????

everyone scream out loud everywhere that the POD HD500 DO NOT REPLACE de X3 LIVE but X3 is no longer avaible sice the HD release...

Dual tone is the LINE6 signature... No dual tone for HD300-400 means that many owners of the X3 live that love dual tone (and used to it) will not buy the HD if they don't need all the HD500 options...

IMHO dual tone is the only options that miss to make th HD300 the best price/quality products in guitar modelling...

Thinking that a $350 modeler will have dual tones and the same capabilities as the "flagship" modeler. . . .is a frigging bad idea;-)

Lets try this again, even though the HD500 is not a direct replacement for X3L. . .:

1- POD HD500 = X3L

2- POD HD400 = Floor POD plus

3- POD HD 300 = Floor POD

So instead of being like past products which had tech that was 2 generations old, LIne6 gives you entry level products with cutting edge tech. People still don't like it. . .
